Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was made as the head White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an advisory panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips with the president Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
